ITANAGAR, June 12: A massive fire accident have gutted down 11 houses into ashes at Yoji Yora within Aalo Township in the wee hours of June 12. West Siang district Students' union (WSDSU) has alleged that fire mishap occurred due to ill fitted electric wiring which led to short circuit.
A team of students led by Jumrik Bagra, General Secretary of the union met the fire victims and provided rice, utensils, mosquito nets and blanket.
The students appealed for support to fire victims as nothing could be saved by the families.
Meanwhile, a team of All Aalo Youth Welfare Association (AAYWA) led by its president Marto Lollen and General Secretary Duli Lomi visited the spot and extended some relief to the fire victims.
Road blockage cleared through social service

Universities term allegation baseless
ITANAGAR, June 12: The press statement of Professor Dr. Nani Bath of Rajiv Gandhi University did not go well down as Apex Professional University, Pasighat and Arunachal University of Studies, Namsai today reacted saying that allegation was baseless and unfounded with malafied intention to harm the reputation of the universities.
During the press meet Professor Bath highlighted the complaint letter written by Joint Action Group comprised of All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) Guwahati Arunachal Students Union (GASU) and Arunachal Shillong Students Union, Meghalaya to Chief Minister Arunachal Pradesh on 8th April 2014 against the universities alleging that universities have awarded degrees to thousands of students without calling them to Arunachal Pradesh.
In its reaction letter today Apex Professional University (APU), Pasighat stated that allegation level against the university by some vested interests is not only ridiculous but also false and misleading. It also said that the allegations made by Dr. Bath were baseless with an objective to malign the image of the university. The Apex Professional University Pasighat claimed that it did not award a single such degree to any student.
Meanwhile, reacting at the statement of Dr. Bath, the Arunachal University of Studies, Namsai termed the statement far from the truth and appealed to the general public not to believe in the news. It further clarified that the university has not even enrolled such a big numbers of students as mentioned. The university is working for the cause of quality higher education and has been approved by various statutory bodies such as UGC, AIU, BCI, RCI, NIESBUD, IIE, etc, the Arunachal University of Studies, Namsai claimed in a release.

The minister should at least tour all the flood affected areas and the areas where recent torrential rain has caused havoc. Addressing bureaucrats and ministers only, that too in closed cabin, will not give him real picture of the state. The Union Minister must confer some more time for NGOs and other civil society members to discuss the grievances of the people and to the know the ground reality, it said in a release.
Arunachal will be compensated for loss: Niti Aayog
NEW DELHI, June 12: NITI Aayog has said that Arunachal will be compensated for the loss incurred due to denial of the externally aided funding.
The Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in a meeting with the Niti Aayog took up the issue of Arunachal Pradesh being deprived of Externally Aided Funding from agencies such as World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
Chief Minister had called on NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya and CEO Shindhushree Khullar at Yojana Bhavan here today and discussed various issues pertaining to the state budget and its share of budgetary allocations from the Center.
The NITI Aayog Vice Chairman assured the Chief Minister that an alternative mechanism will be devised to compensate for this loss.
The Vice Chairman also assured that Arunachal Pradesh will gain from the recommendations of the Fourteenth Finance Commission wherein Forest Cover and geographical area was assigned a weightage of 7.5 per cent in devolution of funds. Panagariya said that this will ensure sustainable development and benefit the state in the long run.
The Vice Chairman appreciated the State Government for coming up with the Arunachal Vision 2030 document and assured the Chief Minister that NITI Aayog will render all possible guidance and expertise for preparation of the Vision document.
NITI Aayog CEO Khullar appreciated the various fiscal consolidation measures taken by the State Government to maintain fiscal discipline in the state amidst severe financial constraints.
They discussed in length the tentative allocations for the upcoming State Budget
to be presented in the first week of July. After detailed consultations, it was agreed
to go for a Budget of around Rs. 10200 crore for the financial year 2015-
It was further decided that an official level consultation will be held next week under the aegis of the NITI Aayog with the Chief Secretary and other officers of the state to discuss the fiscal consolidation scenario in the state. They also discussed the status of important infrastructure projects in the state and other Central Sector Schemes.
Vice Chairman Panagariya and CEO Khullar assured the Chief Minister of the support of the NITI Aayog to streamline major projects like the Trans Arunachal Highway, Greenfield Airport and Hydro Power projects.
NITI Aayog will soon hold meetings with concerned Ministries and implementing agencies to sort out the pending issues related to these projects.

ITANAGAR, June 12: The preliminary estimated loss on houses and household items, road and bridges, agriculture fields etc. due to flashflood, landslide/mudslide and erosion in Capital Complex was more than Rs.50 crore, informed Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Mige Kamki. He, however, said that the properties lost or damage may increase as new damage reports are still pouring in from different locations.
Many landslides and erosions that have occurred in deep valleys and hills sides are found to be too big and beyond repair.

Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi, who chaired a meeting of the State Level Steering Committee on Food Safety here yesterday evening to review enforcement of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 in the state, asked the food safety officers to collect samples of food additives like, chemical, preservatives, flavors, agents, artificial sweeteners etc. from next month to ensure that such additives conform to the laid down standards.

3 women nabbed with huge quantity of opium

ROING, June 12: In a major breakthrough, Roing police have arrested a gang of three women with 3.633kgs of opium at APST station here today.
Acting on a tip off the police team led by DSP Habung Hailyang arrested the three women on their arrival from Tezu and seized the huge quantity of opium.

Reportedly, after confirmation of Tezu being the main hub for supplying opium to
Lower Dibang Valley district and after interrogation of the arrested couple of peddlers

The opium was disguised in gift boxes, beautifully wrapped with gift wrapping paper. However, since the police had a very strong lead on the suppliers, they opened the gift boxes and found huge quantity of opium. OC Singha, who was also part of the team, informed that a total of 282 strips were counted and the market price of the opium recovered will amount to Rs 1,41,000 as the "wholesale rate" of per strip is said to be Rs 500.
DSP Hailyang said, "We will send the specimen of this opium for expert opinion and charge sheet will be filed soon. Usually such a large quantity of opium comes under the NDPS Act and the jail term for peddlers may extend up to 20 years along with a fine that may extend to Rs 2 lakh."
The DSP further said that his department is now working even harder to completely bring an end to smuggling of drugs into the district. "We are positive about the success and most important for us at this point is to garner public support as interventions may hamper our work," the police officer added.
When asked about who they were going to supply this opium to, one of the women who seemed to be the head of the trio, said that they did not know the name of the woman as they had made all the dealings telephonically. One of the women, who was constantly sobbing said that she had complied with just because she was told that she would be paid 500 rupees to smuggle the batch into Roing. They remained mum on being asked if they were not aware that it was illegal to supply drugs.
PPA questions haste clearance of middle Siang mega dam project
ITANAGAR, June 12: The Peoples Party of Arunachal (PPA) has questioned Union Water Resource Minister Uma Bharti's undue haste in getting the controversial middle Siang mega dam project cleared in Arunachal without taking the prime stakeholders into confidence. PPA alleged that decision reflects poorly of the Centre's assertion that it was in favour of facilitating greater federalism in the country.
It has once again proved beyond doubt that the Centre's hydropower policy towards this strategically located state is more of extractive and exploitative in nature than welfare oriented, the PPA alleged. All the stakeholders whose rights might be affected should have been included in the decision making process, retorted Kahfa Bengia, President PPA in a party meeting on Development of Middle Siang Dam in Arunachal Pradesh. "Why should Arunachal be an innocent victim in this undeclared race to capture the Hydropower potential of the Brahmaputra river basin between India and China who are competing to establish first user right of the river? Unfortunately the Centre's undue haste in getting the project cleared in a clandestine manner undermining the legitimate concerns of the people, particularly the downstream inhabitants within the state and in Assam have sparked great controversies over the subject of Dam building in the region yet again," Kahfa continued.

NAHARLAGUN, June 12: Education Minister Tapang Taloh today said that the state Govt is trying its level best to bring the education to the door step of the poor on priority basis and adopting the policy of zero tolerance in this sector. In his interview with Doordarshan Itanagar, the minister emphatically said "If the poor do not reach to education, the education has to reach to the poor."
The Minister informed that his department had conducted the first coordination meeting on education with all stakeholders including ministers, parliamentary secretaries, MLAs, chief councilors, councillors, ZPCs, ZPMs, ASMs besides educational administrators and subsequently revolutionary step for rationalization of transfer and posting has been initiated to ensure the availability of the teachers in the remote schools in the districts so that every child of the state has the right of education.
Taloh further said that the education department is heading towards new dimension and growing faster with academic excellence under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki.
The minister further said that the emergence of private university in the state is a challenge especially in the context of quality education. "So far eight private universities bills were passed in the state and two meetings were conducted with the private university authorities where they were categorically directed to offer recognized courses. They should not be just institution to award degree, diploma and certificate but should work coherently for the cause of imparting quality education in the state and set example for others to follow."

NEW DELHI, June 12: Following up on his ambitious mission of skill development and employment generation, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today invited youths undergoing various skill development trainings in the national capital for an informal interaction. Youths, who are being trained in various skills at Softdot Company, turned up in large numbers along with the Chairman and Director of the vocational training provider. The trainees are undergoing different courses like financial accounting, web designing, hardware networking among others.
Speaking to the trainees, Tuki asserted that knowledge and experience is all that matters in life. He also emphasised that one should not forget his home and roots no matter how far he or she may be working. He said that the students should remember that they are not only from Arunachal or North East but Indians first. This feeling should reflect in every aspect of their conduct.
Once equipped with enough knowledge in their particular field, youths can survive in any part of the world.
"Our biggest advantage is that we can speak and understand Hindi, letting us communicate better with the people here," he said. Tuki reiterated that his aim is to make Arunachal a model state by guaranteeing 100% employment to its youths. Skill development training is a step forward in achieving that, he pointed.
While expressing his satisfaction on meeting the trainees personally, Tuki said his main concern was to know if the students were happy to be trained in Delhi to which the students replied in affirmative. When asked about their future plans once the training was over, most of the trainees expressed willingness to continue their stay in Delhi by getting placement for jobs in the city.
The Chief Minister appealed the students not to leave the training half way but complete the course while strictly adhering to rules and regulations of their respective institutions. Union defends accused in EE assault case, ANSU unit seeks action
ITANAGAR, June 12: Toru Circle Students Union today defended the accused involved in Executive Engineer Naharlagun Electrical Division assault case on June 9th 2015, claiming that truth was falsified by the Executive Engineer. In a representation to the Home Minister seeking justice for the accused, the union claimed that six youths had visited the EE office on 9th June to enquire about the cancellation of the work order issued to M/s T.C Enterprises by his predecessor. The youth asked EE to show the complaint letter from the higher authority for cancellation of work, which led to argument, the union continued. It further claimed that EE took out his pistol and tried to fire upon the youth, in which the youth snatched the weapon and later deposited it to the police.
Claiming that the EE made false statement before the police team by twisting facts leading to arrest of the youth, the union demanded for a thorough inquiry into the matter so that truth prevails and the justice is done.
Meanwhile All Nyishi Students Union Upper Subansiri Unit strongly condemned the assault on EE Ajay Murtem by the group of youth allegedly led by one Tana Tamar. have caused destruction in all these states. In Arunachal many district remains cut
off from rest of the country due to landslide caused by torrential rainfall. In capital
Itanagar, heavy rainfall has inflicted severe damage. Sector road as well as national
highway has been damaged at multiple areas and it may take months to restore them.
It looks like whole NE region is battling nature's fury but union government seems
least bothered. No single ministers have carried out any kind of survey to find out
the problems affecting people at grass-

Uninterrupted power supply
Dear Editor,
Arunachal Pradesh is regarded as power house of India. But the maintenance and distribution of power supply within the state seems to be very tough even in such scientific and modern age. Even a small down pour or lightening or thunder in the sky is enough to take away the electricity for 24 hours or even more creating immense hurdle to the common public. One cannot think of the life without electricity now a days and shutting down of the supply often creates great problems to the common masses.
In winter, we faces load shedding due to low voltage on account of less water on the reservoir and in summer/rainy season we have to faces electricity cut due to monsoon related disturbances. Can hilly states like Arunachal Pradesh ever have electricity supply 24x7 hours? Whatever may be the reason for such disturbances, a consumer always want round the clock electricity supply with good voltage for which he/she is committed to pay the bill regularly and on time.
Frequent cut of the electricity on account of numerous reasons is also creating revenue losses to the department concern and they need to think for an alternate in order to provide regular supply of power to the consumers.

Lacking facilities and schools
Dear Editor,
Through the esteem columns of your popularly read daily, I would like to share my opinion about the education system in context of Arunachal Pradesh. There were days when we used to go to library to collect information for storytelling, assignment etc and science laboratory for all practical classes.
But now days when ever there is home work or project work, the teachers tell the student to download from internet and print out and submit. Students are not motivated to study and find out the solution from books from the library, if any. This way, if children are always told to search the assignment from internet, then there is always an opportunity that kids may encounter such programme or file which may not be appropriate for their age.
Today I wonder how my children never ask me money to buy dissection box, and am astonished why I have never seen any library card with my children from their respective schools. Couple of days back, I was searching for schools for my relative’s children, I was amazed to find out that not a single school had science laboratory and when enquired the response came that we take our students to our affiliated schools for practical class once in a month.
Even I found that the schools are not having their library. Despite this, there is not a single school for higher secondary level school which charges less than Rs one Lac rupees annually not inclusive of books and uniforms etc.
How come the education system in this state registers these private schools without proper infrastructure like laboratory, library and mandatory play ground? There are schools in the middle of shopping centres also catering to need of 50 to 60 children. Who is appropriate authority to redress this issue? Where is the quality education, if the science and geography students are not doing practical classes? Is the govt of Arunachal Pradesh regulating the fees structure?

Shortage of coins
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, i want the concerned authorities to spare a minute for us and come out with a solution in coming days regarding shortage of coins in the state. A jolly line goes this way “Before we bought sweets because we had coins in our hand but now we buy sweets because we don’t have Coins.” Irony but true with the present situation of our state. You go to a shop, you get sweets instead of balance money. You go to a retailer they charge you extra just because they don’t have coins. Now we wonder whose responsibility is to keep the coins. But I am sure that it’s not the customer’s duty to carry a pocket full of coins every time.
Lastly one more irony is that when you go to a bank for a draft or challan, even the bank says they don’t have coins. Hence they also keep our remaining money with them. I don’t know whether bank transfer our balance money to a govt. account or the person behind the computer puts into his pocket.
Its a request to the executive members of market and Bazar welfare committees and the District administrators to look for a solution to this problem.
